The free-weight area is where most gyms win or lose their members. It is the busiest part of the floor, the hardest on equipment, and the first place a tired fit-out shows. Everything in this range is specified for commercial use — continuous daily loading, shared use, and the kind of treatment domestic equipment does not survive.
What's in the range
-
Dumbbells — urethane pairs and full sets from 1kg through to 60kg, plus Altrafit ELEMENTS and studio ranges.
-
Barbells and bars — Olympic bars in 5ft, 6ft and 7ft, women's bars, EZ curl, hex/trap, safety squat and triceps bars, with collars and neck pads.
-
Plates and discs — urethane discs, rubber bumper plates and colour-coded sets from 1.25kg to 25kg.
-
Kettlebells — cast iron and rubber-coated, 4kg to 32kg.
-
Benches — flat, FID, multi-angle, utility and specialist benches.
-
Cable attachments — lat bars, ropes, handles and straps to get more from your cable stations.
-
Storage — dumbbell, barbell and plate racking to keep the floor clear.
Specifying a free-weight area
Two mistakes account for most of the problems we see. The first is buying weights without buying the storage at the same time, so racking becomes an afterthought that never quite fits the layout. The second is spreading budget evenly across the weight range when in practice the 4kg–20kg dumbbells and the 10kg–20kg plates take the overwhelming majority of the load.
If you are fitting out a new site or replacing a worn area, send us your floor plan and we will quote the whole zone — weights, benches and storage together.
