Plate Loaded Machines

Plate loaded machines sit between free weights and selectorised kit. They give the natural, unrestricted movement path of a barbell with the safety and simplicity of a machine: no spotter needed, no technique barrier, and nothing to intimidate a member on their second visit. For most gyms they are the workhorses that keep the floor moving at peak times.

Upper body

• Chest: chest press, incline chest press and decline chest press, so you can cover the full pressing angle range without members improvising on a bench.
• Back: lat pull down, seated low row, seated vertical row and incline lever row.
• Shoulders: shoulder press for controlled overhead work.

Lower body

Leg press and linear leg press, leg extension, standing leg curl, seated calf raise and rear kick. Between them they cover the quads, hamstrings, calves and glutes without needing a rack or a bar.

Smith machine and functional trainers

The Smith machine gives guided barbell work with a fixed bar path and catch points, the safest way for unsupervised members to load squats and presses heavily. The functional trainer (DAP) covers cable work at every angle in a single footprint, which makes it one of the most efficient purchases per square metre on the gym floor.

Specifying a plate loaded area

Machines are only half the cost of a plate loaded zone. You also need the plates and the storage to go with them. Bumper plates and Olympic discs are stocked here alongside the machines, along with bumper plate storage, so a station can be quoted complete rather than as a machine that turns up with nothing to load it.

These are considered purchases with real lead times and delivery requirements. Talk to us before ordering and we will help you match the range to your floor space and member profile. See also free weights and rigs and racks.
