Barbells & Olympic Bars

A barbell is a twenty-year purchase if you buy the right one and a two-year purchase if you don't. Sleeve bearings, knurl depth and shaft finish are what separate a bar that still spins cleanly after a decade of commercial use from one that seizes and rusts. This range covers the full spread of bars a gym floor actually needs.

Olympic bars

Standard Olympic bars with bearings in 5ft, 6ft and 7ft, so you can match the bar to the rack rather than the other way round. A 6ft women's bar with bearings gives the narrower 25mm shaft diameter and shorter length that suits smaller hands and lighter loading.

Specialist bars

• Hex and trap bars: 4.5ft, 6ft and 7ft, for deadlifts and carries with a neutral grip and less lower-back load. Consistently one of the most-used bars in any gym that owns one.
• Safety squat bars: padded yoke and forward handles for squatting without loading the shoulders.
• EZ curl and triceps bars: angled grips for arm work, easier on the wrists than a straight bar.

Fixed weight barbells

Urethane barbells from 10kg to 45kg, available individually or as a 10kg to 45kg set, and Altrafit ELEMENTS barbells from 10kg to 45kg. Fixed bars suit studios and class settings where members shouldn't be loading plates mid-session.

Accessories

Spring collars and quick-clip collars, Olympic neck pads, and a double deadlift barbell jack for loading plates without lifting the bar. See also plates and discs and bar storage.
