Functional kit takes more abuse than anything else on a gym floor. It gets thrown, slammed, dragged and carried, often by people still learning the movement. The ALTRAFIT ELEMENTS functional range is specified for exactly that, at a price independent and boutique operators can realistically fit out a zone with.
Balls, bags and boxes
Medicine balls from 1kg to 10kg in 1kg steps for throws, rehab and mixed ability classes. No bounce tyre slam balls for full force slam work. Weighted bags for carries and cleans where a bar would be unsafe or intimidating. Soft three in one plyo boxes and a three piece set at 15cm, 30cm and 45cm, which give multiple heights from one unit and cause far fewer shin injuries than timber.
Kettlebells and loaded work
Rubber coated kettlebells for quieter drops and floor protection, plus ELEMENTS dumbbells, barbells and Olympic discs, bumper plates and urethane dumbbells for loaded functional training. A VKR power tower covers dips, knee raises and bodyweight work in a single footprint. See kettlebells and functional fitness.
Platform and storage
Deadlift drop pads protect flooring on heavy pulls, a double barbell jack makes loading and unloading quick, and Olympic disc racks and bumper plate storage keep the zone clear. Storage matters more here than anywhere else: a functional area loses its usable floor the moment kit stops going back.
Designing the zone
Start with kettlebells, balls and boxes, which cover the widest range of sessions for the least outlay, then add specialist kit once you can see how the space is actually being used. Keep a designated impact area for slam work and put storage at the edges rather than the middle.
